Like any good result, this hasn't happened by magic, but hard slog and teamwork. As well as in-house events featuring local artists, in the past year, the Wauchope Arts Council hosted 21 music gigs in their hall off Bain Park.
Thanks to the great history and reputation of the Arts Council, Wauchope now frequently features on global performance tours. Alongside such destinations as Edinburgh, London, New York, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, comes our town of Wauchope! Quite an achievement highlighting what might be described as the community cultural centre of our region.
Each year I act as returning officer for the Arts Council annual general meeting. It is truly reassuring to see not only some same faces put their hands up year after year to take office, but also new faces to keep the organisation refreshed.
And judging by the usually sold-out events at the hall, it is very true to say the Wauchope Community Arts Hall is the Glasshouse of our hinterland (and only $25 per show).
Coming up on June 15, the hall will showcase six-time Aria Award winner David Bridie, who is touring all major Australian cities ... and Wauchope. All I can say is, go you good thing (and its people).
An item at last week's Port Macquarie-Hastings Council meeting was adopting a new code of conduct.
I personally absolutely support having and following a formal code of conduct. Ironically, higher levels of government evidently don't see a need to regulate their own behaviour.
A decent and enforced code of conduct for all politicians - and truth in media - is sorely needed. It's not hard to imagine where we'll end up unless respect for civility is restored.
Cr Intemann's stories from a civic heart are her opinions and not necessarily council's.
