Development plans for the district aerodrome at Port Macquarie from the DCA were tabled at Oxley County Council's meeting on Thursday.
The plans were warmly greeted by the council and it was agreed that while they are not as rigid as SPA maps, they will allow the council to plan the future development of the airport.
Alderman Matesich said now land might be leased for such purposes as the building of an aerotel, which was mooted some time ago.
Copies of the plan will be sent to constituent councils and to the Port Macquarie Aero Club which may have to move some buildings.
Before next year is out there is a likelihood of East West Airlines operating pure (Fellowship) jet aircraft, and the advent of this aircraft will further improve the service in and out of the local 'drome.
Unofficially, the OCC has been informed the present strip will cope with the new planes.
The long proposed, second or alternative landing strip is also much closer to becoming a reality.
Oxley County Council has completed the survey and allocated the first $1000 towards its share of the cost.
The Department of Civil Aviation is expected to peg the new strip out at an early date. This strip will run in an east-west direction south of the present terminal building.
Just prior to the last bend in the present approach road to the terminal building, a second road is planned to lead to a future apron which is surrounded by a square of aero club hangars.
There is provision for aircraft parking, refuelling station, and an adequate taxiway adjoining the new strip. On the right of the approach road an area has been set as aside for an Aerotel.
No decision yet on Hay Street parking
In finance committee on Thursday night, the municipal council came to no decision in relation to a land purchase in Hay Street, to facilitate parking and access to Horton Street shops.
In open council the mayor, Alderman C.C. Adams in reference to the proposal, said this is something that has been talked about only far too long.
It has gone on for years and if anything is ever to be done this is it, he said.
Ald Kennedy said he was not against the proposal, but he would like to inject a further call on the grant money for West Port Macquarie.
"We've been feeding them with excuses for a long time, that we couldn't do anything until Gordon Street was completed," he said.
"I'd like to see a $1000 taken out for drainage from your motel Mr. Mayor, down at Kooloonbung," he said.
"When Gordon Street is finished we're going to have a lot of water, we won't be able to hand," he said.

Nippers rewarded
The Nippers enjoyed a tremendously happy day on Sunday when hundreds of pennants were presented and lots of food eaten.
Those guiding the nippers also had the satisfaction of seeing their efforts well rewarded.
