The Wauchope Mixed Bowls will host a fundraiser for the riding for the disabled group on Monday June 24.

The brainchild of former bowls president Clive Jackson, the event will be used to help fund ongoing training of horses for the popular group.

Acting bowls president Alan Edwards said Clive was the driving force behind the event.

"Sadly Clive passed away before we could hold this event," he said.

"It appears that Clive had a particular soft spot for a horse called Bluey. After hearing of the horse's history, Clive laid the foundations for our charity fun day.

"Unfortunately he passed away in May and will not get to see the charity day he organised and promoted."

Edwards said all funds raised on the day will go to supporting the costs of caring for the horses.

This includes food, vet bills, and general expenses incurred by the riding club, he added.

"Riding for the Disabled Hastings is a wonderful group of volunteers who spend countless hours carrying out a multitude of jobs maintaining the well being of the horses and many chores around the stables," he said.

"It takes a lot of time and money to train a suitable horse to show the caring, calming aptitude needed to allow the children and adults to ride them.

"The event is open to everyone, so whether you are a bowler or not, come along and support this day."

The club can provide sets of bowls to players, while bare feet is also acceptable for the day.

There will be raffles, trading table and music playing during the day.

Wauchope Mixed Bowls boasts a regular turnout of some 40 bowlers each Monday with some 100 financial members.

In February 2020, the club will celebrate its 30th year.

The Wauchope Mixed Bowls' riding for the disabled fundraiser is at the Wauchope Country Club on Monday June 24. Names by 12.30pm and the cost is $10.
