Amos Donovan said it was all about getting together with the community and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
"It's for everybody and we invite everyone," said Mr Donovan. Crowds enjoyed the activities and the sunshine in Landrigan Park beside the indoor stadium in Wauchope.
NAIDOC Week is a time for all Australians to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year's theme is Voice, Treaty, Truth - Let's work together for a shared future and highlights the desire of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to have a seat at the bargaining table in discussions of Constitutional reform and treaties; and for a truthful depiction of colonisation to underpin the narrative of Australian history.
Tony Clark from KJC Aboriginal Artworks said they were selling lots of shirts, boomerangs, traditional serving trays and clapping sticks.
Decodia Dart from Port Macquarie was enjoying plaiting her Nana's hair, and Katrina Dart says her granddaughter uses her as a model every chance she gets.
As well as dancing and music, there were competitions, fun and games for the children and face-painting.
Connie Smith was there from Ready Mob, a program to tackle smoking among indigenous people.
"It's a smoking cessation team. We encourage smoke-free communities and events, we support people to quit, and we give education to the kids about smoking and staying away from it," she said.
