Well now is your chance as Wauchope Fire and Rescue are on the look out for more retained (on-call) firefighters to join their ranks.
The small, close-knitted team are hoping to get at least another six crew members to help be first responders when duty calls.
To help seek out interested community members they are hosting an information session on August 21.
Danny Molenkamp joined the Wauchope Fire and Rescue unit when he moved to town three years ago and has not looked back.
"We moved to Wauchope from Lake Cathie in 2016 and one of the first things I did was sign up with the local Fire and Rescue unit," Mr Molenkamp said.
"I had always wanted to join Fire and Rescue, it was the right time when we moved and I absolutely love it.
"Wauchope is such a small town so it feels good knowing the people you help could be your neighbours or someone you know.
"To help someone when they are going through something terrible is really rewarding."
Mr Molenkamp said being a retained firefighter means you can be called to a wide range of emergencies so no two days are ever the same.
"From simple grass fires to structural fires but we also get called to road accidents, hazardous spills and animal rescues," he said.
"Our fire station is a primary rescue agency so we get the call first when something happens and we also back up crews in Port Macquarie or Kempsey if needed. We also work closely with the RFS and the SES when needed.
"Our unit is really close and we help each other. When I joined I felt welcomed on day one and it has been like that ever since."
Deputy fire captain Brodie Frazier said the station were looking for community minded people to join the ranks.
"We are currently on the look out for more people to join us," Mr Frazier said.
"We are hoping to get at least another six members and we would love for some females to join us. Currently we have one lady who is excellent and does everything the men do.
"Back in the day firefighters were only men but that is simply not true anymore. Women can do just as much as the men and at other units lots of women are firefighters.
"You do have to pass a physical test and have to be community minded but we would love for anyone to come along to our information session and learn more."
The Wauchope Fire and Rescue information session will be held on August 21 from 6-8pm at the station on Campbell Street.
