A group of friends, some great reading material and an afternoon by the river, all sound like an excellent way to pass some time, right?

Well Wauchope's resident bookworm, Bonnie Blythe has started a club to do just that.

The group is called the Hastings Silent Reading Society and mixes reading and the social aspect of your average book club - sort of.

"I love reading and I have been in a book club before but I couldn't find anything that really fit me," Bonnie said.

"When I moved to Wauchope I wanted a way to read whatever I wanted but also meet new people, and then inspiration struck."

Bonnie said during a casual scroll though Instagram, she came across a group set up in Melbourne who did book club a little differently and decided to give it a crack in Wauchope.

"The idea from Melbourne is a group of people get together and read a book of their own for an hour, take a break and mingle and then go back and continue reading," she said.

"I thought it would be the perfect way to read what you want and also meet new people.

"It is cheap because you don't have to purchase a book to read or feel pressured into reading a certain genre and the people who will come will share a common passion of reading.

"I decided that we would meet down by the river as it is nice to sit outside and relax as well as read."

Bonnie said that reading is a great way to unwind and take some time for yourself.

"Personally reading is a big part of my self care routine and I know there are other people out there who are the same.

"We had the first catch up and it went really well. It was super relaxed and we all had a good time reading our own books and chatted when we finished.

"It would be great to see more people at our next catch up on September 7."
