Five students from Wauchope Public School have had the opportunity to participate in stage 1 of the Koala Smart Project competition held by the Tacking Point Lions Club.
The competition consists of two stages, with stage 1 being a response to what people could do to save the koala. Stage 2 is the design and painting of a koala sculpture.
The students participating in stage 1 designed and proposed a crowd sourcing app as a platform for the community to be involved.
"The Koala Smart Art group from Wauchope Public School have been working hard with Mr Nicholson to complete stage 2 which is due at the end of this month," said teacher, Cathryn Whiteoak.
"The competition is a great opportunity for the students to connect with the local community and really feel that they can make a change."
Judging will take place on October 24, 2019 at Port Macquarie Panthers. All entries will be on display for public viewing at the end of October across Port Macquarie, Wauchope and Kempsey.
