The Port Macquarie Breast Cancer Support Group plays an important part in helping women with breast cancer "pick up the pieces".

As part of that journey, the group plans to host its annual mini field of women on Friday at 10.30am.

The event is at the Port Macquarie Library and is held on behalf of the Breast Cancer Network Australia.

Coordinator Judith Hutchesson says the group has been operating for 16 years and has hosted the mini field for over a decade.

"We want people to come along and have a look at the display," she said.

"This is a tribute to all those who have been lost to breast cancer and those that are fighting the wretched disease.

"We want breast cancer to be recognised by the community and also to recognise that we need to talk about it," she said.

"There needs to be more community awareness."

Mrs Hutchesson wants the day to be a way of drawing people that may have had breast cancer or those people that don't know where to turn next.
