With thousands of people around the country currently spring cleaning in preparation, Garage Sale Trail 2019 is set to offer up a wealth of weird and wonderful sales, sellers and items for fans of pre-loved to discover around the country.
Set to take place on October 19-20, the gigantic weekend will be filled with waste-reducing, planet saving, treasure-hunting fun.
Media partner Australian Community Media, publisher of this website, is supporting the Garage Sale Trail by offering special rates for participants to advertise within the classifieds section of their local ACM-owned newspaper.
Take out a classifieds ad and you'll not only reach your local market - and be listed on our weekly garage sale map - you'll also reach a national audience through the Garage Sale Trail website.
Why not make some extra cash by putting your secondhand goods up for sale, feel lighter by decluttering the things that no longer spark joy and up your karma points by minimising the sheer amount of new stuff that exists on the planet.
Go garage sale hunting this weekend. Check out the maps for garage sales in your state. Zoom in to see what's on in your area:
The partnership between Garage Sale Trail and Australian Community Media is designed to help the trail grow and incorporate as many events as possible.
From humble beginnings, Garage Sale Trail has grown to be a national event supported by 140 councils.
This year an estimated 400,000 Aussies will take part as sellers and shoppers at more than 18,000 garage sale events across the country; 3 million kilos of second-hand goods will be be diverted from landfill.
Now in its ninth year, the multi award-winning national initiative seeks to educate Australians on the importance of re-using secondhand goods and the need to take individual responsibility for the impact of our consumption habits. It also builds stronger, connected and resilient communities.
Co-founder Andrew Valder said he hoped to inspire community-powered change, that allowed people to express themselves while helping to preserve the planet.
"Our aim is to make sustainability fun and social," he said. "To bring awareness to the idea that ultimately we are the ones responsible for the waste we create, the impact we make on our planet both locally and globally and to show people that small actions done at scale can make an impact.
"Initiatives like Garage Sale Trail are a gateway to more sustainable living and connected communities. It's also a lot of fun."
