The late Barry Morrison moved to Wauchope later in life, and became a volunteer at the Friday meals program at the Uniting Church Hall in Hastings Street, until ill-health forced him to step down.
Carol Higgins from the meals program organised a special afternoon tea in memory of Barry, and people who knew him shared their memories of him, and looked at old photos of his days in Wauchope.
"Barry was such a wonderful person. We all have our own little memories," said Carol.
"He gave me a mug which said: 'Keep smiling and they won't know what you've been up to,' and he was a great guy. He was always there to help. We all loved him. This time today is a time of remembering Barry, thanking him for all the things he did and showing that we really loved him and we really miss him," she added.
Barry was a well-known figure around town, often popping into the Village Green Coffee House where Carol Carroll and Sue Dutton would serve him a hearty breakfast and stop for a chat.
"He loved a good breakfast, and he was always very friendly and pleasant," said Carol.
He also liked to go to the library, and librarian Kylie Rose has fond memories of Barry coming there regularly and spending time on the computer or borrowing fiction.
"He liked crime and thrillers and was a big reader, and he also loved jigsaw puzzles," recalled Kylie.
Barry was also very kind to the elderly residents of Hastings Court, helping them with any problems that he could.
