The idea grew out of a conversation from around Camden Haven Show Society secretary Jody Nelson Gleeson's kitchen table.
Jody said her family was discussing how the drought was taking its toll on farmers, families and businesses.
Her daughter Taren came up with the idea of adding a 'rain dance' to the show's program to raise awareness and money for the cause. Participants will dance to the song 'The Git Up'.
The show is over the weekend of October 19 and October 20. All proceeds from the rain dance will go to Rural Aid Australia.
Jody said unfortunately there are many people who aren't aware the drought is still impacting people.
It is hoped other show societies will run with the idea.
"it's about looking at the whole picture," Jody said.
Businesses have already donated generous amounts to the cause, including Mid North Coast Diagnostic Imaging with $1000.
Jody said people have been practicing the dance in the lead up to the show and attendees are welcome to join in on the day.
Camden Haven Girl Guides members will be collecting donations for Rural Aid during the rain dance.
In September 2018 Jody and Sean Gleeson collected donated goods from the Camden Haven community and delivered them to the drought-impacted town Carinda.
Carinda is located in the far north of NSW in the Walgett Shire local government area.
In 2018 Jody and Sean were shocked at the stark landscapes they were confronted with.
However Jody said unfortunately the situation is now worse.
"They are doing it pretty tough out there," she said.
"It's so disheartening.
"There are people who are moving away from the town."
Jody said they decided for the funds raised to go to Rural Aid, as the society believes they deliver it to those who need it most.
The society believes it's important to keep the impact of the drought in the "eye of the public".
Jody said there are different levels of how the drought is impacting NSW, according to where towns are situated.
