Grab your love and your BFFs, get your mojo going, and enjoy the melodic sounds of America, The Eagles, Carole King, Cat Stevens, The Carpenters, Bread, Neil Young, John Denver, Fleetwood Mac and Don McLean to remind you when peace, love and platform shoes ruled the world.
It's the soundtrack of the Baby Boomer generation with award-winning entertainers Stephen Fisher-King, Chris Connolly and Jo Elms. The multi-media show has been running for about 18 months and recently picked up the ACE Award for best production show 2019.
Fisher-King has appeared in musical theatre productions including Cats and Evita, won nine MO Awards and seven ACE awards. He grew up in Canberra and attained a degree at the Conservatorium of Music.
"As a child fell in love with the guitar-based sounds of the '70s. I was a singer guitarist playing '70s and '80s music in a duo called The Smooth Side, after I graduated," Fisher-King says. "Then I didn't play any of it for 10 years, until I was buying a guitar for my niece, about 5 years ago, and decided I should start playing again."
"This show is scripted, and my wife has made a video of the culture at the time. It was put together as a theatre show and evokes lots of memories." Fisher-King says the video is actually one of the stars. "At first I was off-put because people were watching the video not us.
"We do about 28 songs, closing with Led Zeppelin, which is hard to follow up, so it is the encore number." One of the hardest things to do was choose the songs, he says. "We include the biggest hits but we always get people come up and say 'you should have done this number'."
They sometimes drop a ballad for a dance number if the mood warrants. The six-piece will definitely make a trip to the dance floor irresistible.
"The audience will know all the songs and sing along. But it's not a tribute show so we don't try to look like or sound like the artists. We might dress in the style of John Denver, or Led Zeppelin, you might even see me in long white socks and short shorts.
"It's a fun show, a walk down memory lane. There are solos from the three of us, and we all play guitar, it's all played live with a keyboard and drums."
Some of the hits include Father and Son, American Pie, Hotel California, You're No Good, Country Road, Annie's Song. Fisher-King says the band is really looking forward to their regional tour. "The music is great, the cast is great and the audience will have a ball. They will feel like they've spent time back in the glory days."
