On Sunday, November 17, the community will come together to thank volunteers from the Rural Fire Service and the other agencies involved during the emergency including Fire and Rescue NSW, SES and Police.
The event is a collaboration between the Lake Cathie-Bonny Hills Lions Club, the Lake Cathie Progress Association and Revive Lake Cathie.
The thank you event will begin at 3pm at the Lake Cathie Foreshore Reserve. Residents are asked to bring along a plate for afternoon tea to share, drinks and a chair or blanket
Danielle Maltman from Revive Lake Cathie said the event was a chance for the community to come back together after the fire.
"Our town would not still exist without the amazing emergency services who made sure all our homes and community members were safe," Mrs Maltman said.
Vern Warner from the Lake Cathie Progress Association also said the thank you was extended to all emergency services who came to Lake Cathie to help.
Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams said she has extended an invitation to the NSW Minister for Emergency Services David Elliott and the RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimons attend the event.
"Despite the current fire situation at this stage we are still expecting the thank you event to go ahead," Mrs Williams said.
