Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce said they were proud members of the local business community have come out in force to thank emergency service crews and support the wider community in their time of need.
In response to recent bushfires and a declared state of emergency, local business owners have led the way in donating supplies, accommodation and comfort to those fighting the fires and those that have been impacted.
As just one example of the generosity being shown from the business community, Charles Sturt University have collaborated with Peak Coffee, XS Food, Sunset Gallery and Framing and a host of other local businesses, to offer beds, showers, healthcare supplies, water, coffee and food to Rural Fire Service crews from across the state.
Mark Wilson, executive officer at Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce has applauded the response from the business community.
"We couldn't be prouder of how many of our Chamber members, have taken the lead and stepped up to look after their community. Their generosity has been outstanding," Mr Wilson said.
"It's one of our strengths, as a close knit community, to take good care of each other and our guests, particularly in a moment of crisis.
"In particular, I'd like to acknowledge our members at Port News, their continuous coverage of the situation, right across the LGA, has kept us all informed, connected and safe."
Stuart Bate from Camden Haven's Chamber of Commerce was also quick to praise the local relief efforts.
"We thanks all those who have contributed directly and indirectly over the last two weeks and recognises the tragedies that have occurred as well as those that have been avoided," Mr Bate said.
"At this time it's important to not only look out for those involved but also the people around you who are being affected by the stress and intensity of the situation.
"We are a community that is resilient yet at the same time each of us is vulnerable and whether we know it or not, we are affected by the events around us."
Both chamber's said they will donate proceeds to upcoming events to the bushfire effort.
"With the Christmas retail and tourist season just around the corner, Chamber would really like to encourage everyone to remember to buy local first and support businesses that have shown incredible community spirit though supporting others," Mr Wilson said.
"In addition to recognising the charity from businesses, Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a fundraising Christmas Party for Tuesday, December 10 with donations going to the Rural Fire Service."
"It's important that whilst we stay vigilant and respect the efforts to assist, we have the responsibility of our day to day lives to tend to," Mr Bate said.
"With this in mind, the Laurieton Riverwalk Markets will be operating this Sunday, November 17 and the Chamber will donate all proceeds from the markets to fire relief."
