GOOD NEWS: Thumbs up from council staff, councillors and key stakeholders celebrating the upgrade of the High Street in Wauchope.

Residents and businesses in Wauchope are enjoying a revitalised town centre, with the upgrades to High Street and the surrounding area now complete.

Wauchope's iconic main street is now safer, more attractive and pedestrian friendly, after the installation of new footpaths, gardens and shade trees, seating, street lighting, underground services, relocation of pedestrian crossings, and the resurfacing of High Street.

"The $3.75 million upgrade of the High Street area between Cameron and Hastings streets was jointly funded by the NSW Government and Council," said Oxley member Melinda Pavey, who was unable to be present due to a meeting with firefighters.

"This ensures locals and visitors are able to more safely and easily move around Wauchope, with additional parking spaces and widened footpaths."

Most recently, Transport for NSW resurfaced the Oxley Highway (High Street) between Beechwood Road and the railway line, with parking spaces along the route also resurfaced.

"The completion of the main street upgrade and road resurfacing is a great example of Transport for NSW and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council working together to achieve fantastic outcomes for the local community," said Mayor Peta Pinson.

"High Street is one of our region's most important gateways, and it's great to see the character retained whilst making the area more accessible, safer and easier to get around.

"A big thanks to all the local businesses and residents for their patience during the work, I'm sure you'll agree the small inconvenience has resulted in a wonderful revitalised space that can be enjoyed by locals and our many visitors."

The mayor encouraged everyone to come and admire the changes and enjoy a day out in Wauchope this Christmas.
