The Wauchope and Hinterland Community Christmas was due to be held in Bain Park on Friday November 29 but with a storm forecast, it was moved to the Wauchope Indoor Stadium in Cameron Street.
The event was organised and sponsored by Regional Australia Bank and the Wauchope Chamber of Commerce. Stage entertainment started with the Wauchope primary school choirs followed by talented local youngsters, including Jasmine O'Brien, Charlotte Schrader and Nicky Milner.
The carols segments were led by Sing Australia Wauchope, offering a bracket dedicated to Aussie carols, with more traditional carols with the Concento Band later in the evening. The Hastings District Highland Pipe Band also played, adding tinsel and Christmas hats to their familiar tartan.
To the delight of the children, Prime Possum and Santa visited. MCs are Nik James (SuperRadio Niko) and AJ from the Party Professionals and they had lots of children up on the floor practising dance moves.
"The evening was a great night with family friends and fellow community members," said Lisa McPherson from Wauchope Chamber.
"It was great to see so many people dressed in Christmas gear. We had lovely food stalls, and great entertainment to get everyone into the festive spirit."
Kids activities included the Party Professionals Jumping Castles, TAFE Christmas cookie decorating and Sand Wizard SandArt.
A variety of market stalls were also set up to help people get a start on their Christmas shopping.
2019 marked the 9th year of the Wauchope and Hinterland Community Christmas in Bain Park.
"This year we have been particularly looking forward to seeing the community come together after the many difficult weeks we have endured with fires all around us," said Ms McPherson.
"We hope the evening offered some relief to people to share a joyous outing with family, friends other community members and visitors," she added.
Jacqui Leach, and her son and daughter, Addison and Alexi were enjoying themselves. Sisters Caitlin, Isabelle and Grace Mobbs and their friend, Mackenzie Irwin enjoyed the colouring in competition.
Bane Andrew is only 18 months old, but he enjoyed the event along with his mother, Emma, who spread a blanket on the floor of the hall and had a picnic.
"It really gets you in the mood for Christmas," said Emma.
Sabrina and Jaymz Hudson brought their gift bag stall from Macksville for the event.
"It's a great evening," said Sabrina, who also had baby, Kyah, in tow.
