This year, instead of running a Christmas raffle, Wauchope Public School P&C are collecting donations.

"We are going to support the backbone of our country struggling through the worst drought and fires in history," said Sarsha Walker from the P&C.

"We hope to support our farming families and families who lost everything in the recent fires with donations to help make their Christmas a little brighter. Let's teach our kids about the importance of giving at Christmas."

All donations are being accepted at the school office (for school families) or at CS Mechanical Repairs and Services (51 Wallace Street, Wauchope) for the whole community to get involved.

"We would love gifts (unwrapped or wrapped in cellophane only and must be new) for children of all ages whose parents won't be able to afford gifts,plus gifts for parents, pampering gifts or non-perishable items to make up Christmas hampers.

"Anything at all that you would like to see in a Christmas hamper - food, decorations, treats and, of course, presents so these farmers' children don't miss out on celebrating Christmas," added Mrs Walker.

"Please support our collection, and in turn, support our struggling farmers and fire victims. Thank you in advance for your support."

By partnering with Doing It For Our Farmers, the P&C hope to distribute as many gifts locally as possible. All donations must be received by December 12.
