Well maybe not that extreme, but Port Macquarie-Hastings Council wants to hear ideas from residents on just what our community might look like in 30 years time.
The Think 2050 Community Strategic Plan (CSP) will rely on the community's voice to formulate a concept for the future of our region.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor Peta Pinson launched the plan, with council group manager Lucilla Marshall on Wednesday, December 4.
Ms Marshall said council staff want input from all age groups, but especially the youth who in 2050 will be in the prime time of the lives.
"It's their time to shine," she said.
Through recent discussions with the community, Ms Marshall said issues of connectivity and the environment were discovered to be important to residents in planning for the future.
The last CSP was conducted with members of the community in 2008 and Ms Marshall said the world has advanced rapidly since that time.
Cr Pinson said she is looking forward to contributing to the plan, as in 2050 she'll be aged in her eighties.
People's values are changing all the time and Cr Pinson said it's important for people to give advice on how they choose to live, where they shop and how they experience life.
Given the prominent female demographic in the region, Cr Pinson said she'd encourage women to have a say in what they would like for their futures.
The feedback council receives from the community for the Think 2050 CSP will complement other studies, including the Urban Growth Management Strategy.
Council staff will host youth forums, round tables and pop-up consultation sessions around the wider Port Macquarie-Hastings region to gather ideas for the future from the community.
