The Event Sponsorship Program provides grant funding for events that attract, or have the potential to attract a significant number of visitors to our region.
This is round 2 of the 2019/20 grants program, where funding is provided to help locally grown events get off the ground, and help event organisers in developing, promoting, executing and sustaining their events longer-term.
Applications open Monday December 16 2019 and close Sunday February 9 2020.
Major events are important for our local economy, add vibrancy to our region and provide great experiences for our community to enjoy. The $5,000 grants aim to support event organisers in the marketing and promotion of events that are being held in the second half of 2020.
Clayton Pickworth from the Port Macquarie Bodyboarding Association said that the grant they received through the program has assisted greatly with their PMBA Teams Challenge event.
"Being a recipient of an Event Sponsorship grant has enabled PMBA to reach a broader audience through social and mainstream media, community education programs and built local business partnerships that puts the sport of bodyboarding into the limelight," said Mr Pickworth.
Juliane Wisata from the Fox Superflow Mountain Bike Event said that their business has been active in the cycling industry and organising mountain biking events for over a decade.
"For us, the close cooperation with local councils and tourism organisations is a vital and enriching part of our event planning and delivery process," said Ms Wisata.
"We have received support through the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council grants for events we host at the Jolly Nose MTB Park in 2019 and 2020, and have been overwhelmed by the positive attitude by the staff involved in the process.
"With an active local cycling community, we have received great support and input throughout the application and event planning processes, which contributed to the successful delivery of our event," she explained.
"There are so many tourism marketing resources that we were able to utilise and that have been shared with us that our marketing communications have been very positively influenced."
Other past recipients include the Port Macquarie Running Festival, Slice of Haven and the Elephant Trail Race. Both 'for profit' and 'not for profit' events are welcome to apply.
The Port Macquarie-Hastings Community Grants Program, which provides grant funding for important community-based initiatives opens in early 2020, with dates to be advised soon.
