The Beechwood Tennis Club was served up a major grant from the NSW Government's Infrastructure Grants program. The Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey MP, said the funding will help deliver lasting benefits to the local community.
"I am so pleased that the Beechwood Tennis Club has been awarded $100,000 to overhaul and upgrade the courts and their facilities," Mrs Pavey said.
"It is projects like these that help bring people and communities together, and provide for top-class and long-term sporting facilities. And, together with another very significant allocation from Port Macquarie Hastings Council, the Beechwood courts will be a truly excellent tennis and social venue for the area."
Tracey Eastwood from Beechwood Tennis Club says everyone has missed the courts since they had to close in March this year.
"We will soon have two nice safe courts, with synthetic grass and we will be able to pick up a lot of new members from people who have moved to the area. It's not too competitive, and it's a great space for people to meet," she said.
Terry Burn from the club said it was a great achievement to get the grants, and he thanked the Wauchope RSL Club represented by Mal Butler and the Wauchope Country Club represented by Caleb Rose for helping to make the upgrade possible.
"We are looking at volleyball and basketball courts here as well - whatever we can incorporate without interrupting the tennis too much. We hope to start work next week and finish the upgrade in March," he said.
Mayor Peta Pinson said she was delighted at the news, in addition to the $60,000 allocation to the club by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council in its 2019/20 operational plan.
The NSW grant was made possible by the Clubgrants Category 3 Fund which re-invests profits from registered clubs' gaming machines into community infrastructure projects across three key areas:
- Arts & Culture
- Disaster Readiness & Community Infrastructure
- Sport & Recreation
Since 2013, the NSW Government has funded over 350 community projects worth $82 million under the Infrastructure Grants program.
