The playground was officially opened on December 17 just in time for Christmas and has already become a huge hit with parents, carers and kids alike.
Located behind the iKew Visitor Information centre the playground caters for a wide age group where children will enjoy a combination of nature and music play, swings, a slide and a fantastic timber airplane crafted by the kendall Men's Shed.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council group manager Liam Bulley said the playground project has been about a 12 month process but the area was now a fantastic facility for the whole family.
"The playground opening is very exciting for the town of Kew," Mr Bulley said.
"The space is a wonderful place for kids, parents and carers to be with lots of equipment for the kids and lots of seating areas for parents.
"The project has been a great collaboration between the state government, council and the community."
The Kew community playground is a $166,662 project funded through the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
Parents Bryana Lovett and Kristie Neilson say the new playground has been hotly anticipated by their small children.
"From our yard we look right out onto the playground and over the last few months the children have been watching closely as the workers have been putting everything together," Mrs Lovett said.
"The playground is absolutely amazing and it has everything the kids could ever want from the flying fox to the plane and the swings.
"Before it was just a big green space but this playground now has everything from equipment for the kids to the bush and still lots of grass for them to run around on.
"As locals we absolutely love it but it will also be great for tourists as coming to Kew now means the kids will be entertained at the park and the parents can sit and enjoy the area."
Mrs Neilson said she had just moved to Kew and the township is fast becoming the best place in the Hastings.
"A few years ago no one would ever think of moving to Kew - including my husband and I - but we have just moved out here and it is great," Mrs Neilson
"Kew is becoming the place to live, not just a place to stop but a place where people can stay and that is so great for the Camden Haven."
Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams said it was a great day for the Kew community and the Camden Haven.
"As we have been time and time again, by working together we can deliver wonderful assets for our community and the new playground is a perfect example," Mrs Williams said.
"What a timely Christmas present for the Kew community and the many visitors who stop at the iKew Visitor Information Centre.
"The playground improvements complement the funding that the NSW Government had previously granted to upgrade the toilets at the centre."
