The club began in 1959 when it was known as 'Ninness's Nuggets', when excess players from the Wauchope Skippys were given the chance to get a game in the Hastings League comp. In 1961, the team was sponsored by and became known as Co-op, a name that was retained throughout the 1960s and 70s. In 1980, sponsorship partnerships changed and the Wauchope RSL Club became the major sponsor.
"Unfortunately, the club folded at the beginning of 2002 and has not participated in the Hastings League since then. Despite this, there are a large number of people who have been proud to be a part of the team over its history, and this reunion has been long anticipated as an opportunity for old friends to catch up," said organiser Chris Hancock.
An organising committee have been planning the event. There will be a get-together at the Hastings Hotel on Friday March 27 from 5pm, then the Reunion Dinner, starting at 6pm at the RSL Club on Saturday March 28.
Tickets for the dinner are $35 per head, which provides an entrée, main meal and cake for dessert, with tea and coffee also available. Tickets will be available through direct deposit at the Regional Australia Bank, either online or in branch. Ask for West Wauchope Rugby League Football Club Inc.
They can also be bought at Lewie's Butchery at the corner of High and Bransdon Streets, but you need to have the correct money in cash. Very importantly, there is no pay at the door on the night, tickets must be purchased by Friday March 20.
"There will be a large amount of memorabilia to look at over the course of the evening, including photos, newspaper clippings, and jerseys from the various time periods. However, the main focus of the night will be for friends to reunite and stories (both true and untrue) to be told," he said.
