The youngster joined guides as a five year old.
She now hopes to achieve her Queen's Guide.
The BP award involves the completion of activities (chosen by the Guide) in the following categories: promise and law, outdoors, patrol system, service, world guiding and guiding traditions.
For the BP award Guide's must complete 18 activities which can normally take 1 to 2 years to complete however after nine activities are completed they are awarded an endeavour award.
Just one stand out challenge from the award was organising and running a camp for the unit of about 15 girls. The theme was "Through the looking glass" loosely based off Alice in Wonderland. She got to design a badge, plan the activities, work out the menu and more.
Both Makayla and her friend and fellow Guide jointly planned the camp and were able to support each other along the way to both achieve the challenge.
Makayla became a Girl Guide when she was a little over 5 years old at Wauchope Girl Guides where she has progressed through the age groups to now being in the senior guides which she can attend till she is 18 years old.
Leadership options are available after that to continue her guiding.
Makayla has participated in many activities over the years including Clean Up Australia, Anzac Day activities, and Australia Day.
She has also attended many camps both locally and at region level.
Attending the Great Guide Sleepout at Taronga Zoo with around 1000 girls/leaders sleeping under the stars - three times has been a highlight for her guiding journey.
She has met so many friends over the years and always looks forward to the next event to catch up with them, she said
As you can imagine being a Girl Guide for 10 years she has grown up from a small, shy 5 year old girl to a confident 15 year old lady, creating bonding lifelong friendships/relationships not only with the girls she has meet, but most importantly the leaders.
She has learnt many life lessons from these ladies that volunteer their time to help with the growth of these girls and to help guide them, teach them and encourage them to be confident, accepting, basically the best versions of themselves.
Sounds like something you'd like to be a part of, whether you're a young girl looking for fun, friendship and adventure or a lady wanting to be a part of the great team of leaders, check out our Facebook page - Wauchope Girl Guides or enquire through girlguides-nswact.org.au for more information.
