Women and men from all walks of life united to celebrate women and all their strengths at a breakfast held at the Laurieton United Services Club.

Ms Michelle captivated the gathered crowd as she spoke about how she had seen and experienced gender inequality in her volunteering work in Africa, India and Nepal.

"International Women's Day is about celebrating the achievements of women and recognising our strength together with one voice," Ms Michelle said.

"The day is a day to advocate, to speak for those still finding their voice and to encourage positive change towards equality.

"From small rural huts to local events or large scale conferences, International Women's Day is a chance to come together and stand together side by side, across the world."

Ms Michelle has made a name for herself hosting fundraisers to help fund her international work which targets women, children and families in some of the most impoverished places in the world.

She said she is proud to have started 13 education programs, chicken and food programs and funded a range of community engagement projects in Nepal and participated in even more globally.

"I have been fortunate enough to have worked with some truly inspirational women from across the globe," she said.

"I developed my passion for travel at the age of 21 when I left my home for the first time to work in an African orphanage.

"Through my travels I have witnessed inequality first hand and each experience has opened my eyes more and more to the world around me.

"It has encouraged me to learn more about diverse cultures and advocate for change. With most triumphs come challenges and we often just see the tip of the iceberg.

"For someone that is privileged - like myself - it is quite difficult to come to terms with inequality that women in the developing world face everyday. It is frustrating that I can't just 'fix it' but instead have to plant seeds and let time show the improvements."

Ms Michelle said pausing to celebrate International Women's Day is something all women should do to acknowledge the strength they have together.

"We are all equal, we are all worthy and full of potential. We all have our individual stories and we have all been discriminated against.

"And whether you are from a village in rural Nepal or live on the Mid North Coast of NSW we all deserve a voice. I challenge you to use your voice for good, be kind and never forget your strength."
