There will be free off-peak train travel for senior citizens and students across southeast Queensland if the LNP wins government in October.

The LNP will also hand out $500 vouchers to full-time university and TAFE students in areas where public transport is lacking under a bold election promise that will cost taxpayers $2.7 million per year.
LNP Leader Deb Frecklington says the state needs "big ideas to bust its congestion crisis" and free off-peak travel will be across the rail network from Gympie to the Gold Coast and inland to Ipswich.
"My plan will get more Queenslanders off the roads and create more capacity on peak-hour trains by encouraging travel at less crowded times," she said in a statement.
"The LNP's plan is a big win for commuters and a big saving for seniors and students."
Free travel will be between 8.30am and 3.30pm and 7pm and 6am weekdays and all-day on weekends.
The scheme will be trialled over two-years and is a key election pledge ahead of the October 31 state election.
