The network changes, with 70 extra services each week, begin on Sunday, July 19.

Among the wins for the community are an extension of bus services along The Ruins Way and The Point Drive in Port Macquarie, as well as additional services between Port Macquarie and Kendall, and Port Macquarie and Wauchope.

The community can look forward to more timetabled links to meet train services at Wauchope Railway Station.

University student Montana Caban said she was happy with the extension of bus services to take in The Point Drive.

"It will definitely increase people getting out of the house," she said.

Miss Caban said when she previously caught the bus into town, she had to walk 40 minutes to the closest bus stop.

She believes the changes will particularly benefit university students.

Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams said they had been focused as a government and working with Transport for NSW to improve connectivity between major centres and also within regional cities.

"This is the first part of the additional services in Port Macquarie but people will see more changes into the future," she said.

The need for improved bus connections with trains stopping at Wauchope Railway Station has been on the community's radar.

"It is something that people have talked to us about in the past and I am pleased to see this a part of the additional services as of Sunday," Mrs Williams said.

"We will continue to monitor patronage but I have no doubt it is something people will take up."

Mrs Williams said the new timetable was part of the state government's 16 Regional Cities Program to deliver more travel flexibility to regional communities and provide better connections for customers to get to work, school, health services and recreational activities.

Consultation was vital to the network changes.

Busways regional support manager - lower Mid North Coast Mark Lawrence said they saw a constant demand for public transport from certain people.

"As there are improvements to technology, timetables and servicing, and working in conjunction with Transport for NSW and the state member, there will be an increase in that demand," he said.

Port Macquarie network changes

Route 325: Monday to Friday, the 325 will now have an additional 40 services a week providing additional daytime service between The Ruins Way, Port Macquarie Base Hospital, Settlement City and Port Macquarie town centre. From Monday to Friday each week 70 services will now be extended, continuing via the Ruins Way and The Point Drive. Trips extended will show The Point Drive and Howell Avenue on the timetable.

Route 334K: From Monday to Friday, the 334K will have an early evening return service between Port Macquarie and Kendall. The service will depart Port Macquarie at 7.24pm weekdays with the return trip from Kendall leaving 8.57pm. Additional weekend services to and from Kendall will more than double weekend services between Kendall and Port Macquarie.

Route 335W: From Monday to Friday, the 335W will have an early evening return service between Port Macquarie and Wauchope. The service will depart Port Macquarie at 8.17pm weekdays with the return trip from Wauchope leaving at 9.28pm. Additional weekend services to and from Wauchope will double weekend services between Kendall and Wauchope.
