For a dedicated group of Cancer Council Transport to Treatment volunteer drivers rising at 7am and preparing to drive patients from their homes in and around the Hastings to Mid North Coast Cancer Institute is a regular and comforting routine and one they support rain, hail or pandemic.

Transport to Treatment is a consistent and reliable program provided by Cancer Council across the Port Macquarie-Hastings community.

On any given weekday our committed drivers transport cancer patients to appointments related to their cancer treatment.

In 2019 the Transport to Treatment vehicles supported over 300 trips covering a little under 10,000kms.

"There is tremendous pride and satisfaction in supporting cancer patients and their families. I drive because our community needs that support, and Cancer Council is supporting all patients across all cancers," Dian Barnes, Transport to Treatment driver, said.

Community programs coordinator Tim Chapman said Transport to Treatment drivers are a dedicated group, they love to support patients.

"The previous months have presented challenges to us all, but these devoted volunteers have committed themselves to supporting the patients attending the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute; I could not be prouder," Mr Chapman said.

A reality for cancer patients receiving treatment in the Port Macquarie-Hastings area can prove challenging when it comes to transport to and from treatment Cancer Council draws upon the motivation and dedication of this wonderful group of Port Macquarie locals to ensure transport is not a barrier to attending treatment.
