Wauchope teacher trip
A French teacher at Wauchope High School, Patricia Gillett, is now on a three-week trip around Australia, along with 60 other winners in the Coca Cola Explorers 70 competition.
In addition to the trip, which left from Sydney on November 22, flying TAA, she will receive $100 spending money from the Bank of NSW and a $200 wardrobe.
On their flight round Australia the Explorers will be guests at the Governor General's residence in Canberra, and will talk via satellite to an American astronaut in Houston, Texas. They will also visit Mt. Newman, the big iron ore deposit in Western Australia, and will travel from Newcastle to Sydney by hydrofoil.
Local lobsters for Pope
Pope Paul VI and members of the Papal suite will dine tonight with Port Macquarie lobster and snapper as feature dishes. The lobsters and the fish, both freshly caught, were packed this morning and flown to Sydney.
Mr Asher Joel, OBE, MLC, deputy director and the man behind the arrangements for the Pope's visit to Australia, heard the Papal suite wished to sample the delicacies of Australian seafood.
Mr Joel told the Port News he had been in touch with Radleys and the case of lobsters and snapper would be delivered this afternoon to the Papal suite.
Both Merv and Ken Radley were out in their trawlers yesterday and each contributed to the important catch, but the secret of the Radleys' fame with lobsters is in the cooking. This task was entrusted to Ray Smith. Ray has been associated with the Radleys for the past 40 years and has been the chief cook for more than 20 years.
