The would-be students are beginning to make friends with the current Kindergarten/Year 1 class and are gaining confidence each time they visit.
“We look forward to spending more time with them on Thursdays from 9am-10.30am,” said teacher, Mrs Alyson Hudson.
“It enables them to get ready for school and to make friends with the children they will be in class with next year. That makes their start for 2019 a positive one,” she said.
The new transition program is a very positive experience for the little country school.
Mrs Hudson says the children are more settled when they eventually become kindies.
“They know the routine, so learning starts earlier. They come in ready for learning,” said the teacher.
The parents are part of the community, and while the 2019 kindies spend time in the classroom, their Mums and Dads have a cup of tea and a slice elsewhere in the school, bringing the school family and the children closer together.
Huntingdon Public School is now taking enrolments for 2019.
